Kenneth H. Cooper’s classic formula converts that distance into VO2 max in millilitres per kilogram per minute, giving coaches, PE teachers, and endurance athletes a practical aerobic-fitness number without a metabolic cart. This capability takes the distance covered, optionally in metres, kilometres, or miles, applies VO2 max equals distance in metres minus five hundred four point nine, all divided by forty-four point seven three, and returns structured JSON with both distance normalisations and the estimated VO2 max. The path is pure arithmetic with no network and no random seed, so homework checkers, training apps, and prepaid API clients get identical results every time. Non-positive distance is rejected as invalid input because a zero or negative coverage cannot describe a completed Cooper trial. The browser widget runs free on your device; the prepaid API charges $0.002 per successful item when servers and SDKs need the same contract.

What is the Cooper VO2 max formula?

With distance in metres covered in 12 minutes, VO2 max in ml/kg/min is (distance_m − 504.9) / 44.73. Equivalently, 22.351 × distance_km − 11.288. This calculator applies the metre form exactly.

What happens if distance is zero or negative?

The request fails with invalid_input. Distance must be a positive value describing how far you covered in the 12-minute test; non-positive distance is rejected and not charged.

Which units can I use for distance?

Default unit is metres (m). You may set unit to km or mi; the engine converts to metres before applying the classic Cooper constants.

Is the VO2 max Cooper test calculator free?

The browser tool runs free on your device. API calls use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful item; validation failures are not charged.

Is this the same as laboratory VO2 max?

No. This is a field estimate from the 12-minute Cooper regression, not gas-exchange VO2 peak from a metabolic cart. Use it for practical aerobic screening, not clinical diagnosis.
