How to use it

Enter your values in the form above. The tool checks them before calculating and shows the result on the same page.

Check your inputs

Use the labels and units shown next to each field. If something is missing or outside the allowed range, the page points to the field to fix.

Use it again or automate it

Use the browser tool for individual checks and the API when you need the same capability in an automated workflow.

Get an answer now

Enter one set of values and see the result without building a spreadsheet or script.

Compare scenarios

Change one value at a time and rerun the calculation to understand what affects the result.

Automate repeated work

Use the API when the same calculation needs to run inside your product or workflow.

How is the Scottish COVID vaccine queue position estimated?

The calculator assigns the highest matching 2021 JCVI priority group from age, occupation, and health_condition, then ranks inside that group with older people first. queue_position is one plus people in earlier groups and older people in the current group.

What happens if age is negative or not a number?

The task fails with invalid_input. A negative age is rejected with a message that age cannot be negative. An age that is not a finite number is rejected as well. Invalid input is not billed.

Which occupations map to the earliest JCVI groups in Scotland?

care_home_staff maps to group 1 with care-home residents. frontline_health_social_care maps to group 2 with people aged 80 and over. unpaid_carer maps to group 6 for people aged 16–64 unless an earlier age or health-condition rule already applies.

How do underlying health conditions change the JCVI group?

clinically_extremely_vulnerable places people in group 4 unless they already qualify for group 1, 2, or 3. underlying places people aged 16–64 in group 6 unless an earlier rule applies. Children under 16 stay in the paediatric groups unless they are care-home residents.

Is this an official NHS Scotland waitlist, and what does it cost?

No. It is an educational reconstruction of frozen 2021 Scotland cohort sizes, not medical advice and not an NHS Inform booking tool. The browser tool is free. API requests use prepaid KIT balance at $0.002 per successful call; invalid input is not billed.

Everything on this page is available programmatically. This section is for teams who want to wire it into their own systems; everyone else can just use the tool above.

POSThttps://api.kit.forhosting.com/health/vaccine-queue-scotland

Prefer to automate it? One authenticated POST creates the task; the result comes back by webhook or a signed link. The same capability also runs here on the web, by email and from Telegram — and soon from our app too.

curl -X POST https://api.kit.forhosting.com/health/vaccine-queue-scotland \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KIT_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"age":72,"occupation":"other","health_condition":"none"}'
{
  "age": 72,

  "type": "health.vaccine_queue_scotland",

    "result": "/tasks/tsk_…/result"

The API is asynchronous: the call returns a task_id immediately and the result arrives by webhook. Polling is capped at 1 req/s per task.
