This standard error of the mean calculator reports how precisely a sample average estimates the underlying population mean.

You enter a list of finite numbers; the engine computes the sample mean, the sample standard deviation with Bessel’s correction (divide by n − 1), and the standard error SEM = s divided by the square root of n. You also get sample variance, the sum of squared deviations, and the observed minimum and maximum so you can cross-check spreadsheets and lab notebooks. Classic checks include the eight-value series two, four, four, four, five, five, seven, nine, which has mean five and a SEM near three-quarters of a unit after the sample standard deviation is scaled by one over the square root of eight. The path is deterministic two-pass arithmetic only: no network calls, no random resampling, and no date-dependent shortcuts.
