Sphere great circle calculator

A great circle is the largest circle that can be drawn on a sphere: it is the intersection of the sphere with a plane that passes through the sphere’s center.

On Earth, the equator and all meridians of longitude are great circles; on any mathematical sphere the same construction applies once a positive radius is fixed. The circumference of that circle is always twice pi times the radius, and the planar area enclosed by the great circle—the equatorial disk—is pi times the radius squared. Students meet these formulas when solid geometry introduces spheres, spherical triangles, or Earth-radius approximations; engineers and makers need the same numbers when a drawing lists only a ball radius and they must size an equatorial belt, a ring path, or a circular cross-section through the center. This capacity accepts a single positive radius, rejects negative and non-positive values, and returns circumference, area, diameter, and the validated radius as structured JSON. The same pure function powers the free browser widget and the prepaid API path, so a golden server example matches what a visitor runs locally with no network round trip and no language-model involvement.
