Body Roundness Index, often abbreviated BRI, is a shape-based body composition index that models the human torso as an ellipse and scores how round that ellipse is relative to height.

Unlike body mass index, which only uses weight and height, BRI starts from waist circumference and standing height, converts waist into a radius through division by two pi, compares that radius to half height, and turns the resulting geometric eccentricity into a continuous index with the Thomas scaling constants three hundred sixty four point two and three hundred sixty five point five. Higher values mean a rounder profile for a given stature and are often discussed alongside central adiposity screening, though BRI itself is not a diagnosis. This calculator applies the pure analytic path offline with no randomness, rejects non-physical inputs such as zero height or a waist so large that eccentricity would leave the real numbers, and returns the index together with intermediate geometry so teachers, coaches, and product teams can audit every step.
